About This File
Ricin is a highly potent, naturally occurring lectin and ribosome-inactivating protein derived from the seeds of the castor plant (Ricinus communis). It is a toxic glycoprotein composed of two chains: an A chain that blocks protein synthesis by inactivating ribosomes, and a B chain that facilitates entry into cells by binding to surface carbohydrates.
