The VCSO is contracted by Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, Moorpark other smaller municipalities to serve as their police, in those cities the VCSO cars say Police on the side but sheriff on the back, elsewhere it just says on the side and back. The VCSO retains the regular duties that a sheriff's office usually holds, simply serving in place of a cities police force. Source: I live here.
